99 Station Street , Burton-upon-Trent
Widely regarded as Burton-upon-Trent’s top restaurant, 99 Station St has built up this reputation in only three years. Taking the best of modern British cuisine chef Daniel Pilkington designs enticing menus around the seasonal local produce available each month. Menus are never over-complicated but full of flavour and freshness. Owners Ross and Susan have recently handed over the helm to Chef Daniel to concentrate on their other food business, Staffordshire Fine Foods, which continues to supply its delectable range of produce to the restaurant, but the change of management is only likely to change the quality of food for the even better.
Dan’s philosophy of serving the best produce from the day's market and playing around with flavours results in mouth-watering dishes such as, for starters, Scottish crab and watercress tart with herb salad and a vanilla bean vinaigrette, perhaps to be followed by pan fried fillet of sea bass towered with locally cured bacon and a home-made chorizo, coriander and butter bean sauce. Home-made ice creams or more substantial bread and butter pudding with brandy soaked fruits and creamy custard are then all you need to finish off your meal in delightful style.
Champagne breakfasts are available by appointment for business meetings or friends’ get-togethers. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming with efficient and friendly service and a stylish modern decor that is calm and unobtrusive. All the food is well executed without being pretentious and receives a wealth of good reviews.
